Chairman's Letter Corporate Overview Corporate History Moran's President |
Over the course of its nearly 150-year history, Moran has grown from a small
company whose founding mission was to provide docking services for sailing
ships into a major corporate provider of maritime services. The cornerstone of
this growth has been a long-standing reputation for reliable, efficient service,
achieved through a combination of first-rate people and first-class equipment. The company has steadily expanded and diversified, and today it offers a broad range of capabilities. Moran’s tug fleet serves the most ports of any operator in the eastern United States, and currently assists with LNG activities as well as ship docking and towing services. Our barges serve the U.S. Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the Great Lakes, the inland waters of the U.S. eastern seaboard, and the Gulf of Mexico. We also provide worldwide marine transportation services, including operations in the Caribbean, and periodic voyages to South America and overseas waters. Moran operates within three primary areas of business activity:
The company currently owns and operates 96 tugs and 30 barges. To ensure the efficiency and growth of our tug fleet, we maintain an ongoing program of high-tech tractor tug construction. Moran’s newest vessels — especially our Z-drive tractor tugs — use state-of-the-art propulsion technology to enhance the fleet's versatility and environmental safety. We are also committed to utilizing the latest double-hull barge technology, which provides significant safeguards against oil spills. |
Two new double-hulled tank barges, to be used for transporting ConocoPhillips petroleum
products, are currently under construction for Moran. Moran serves 13 ports, each with its own localized management, dispatch and engineering functions; all are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The company’s ports of operation include: Moran customers include: some of the world's leading cruise ship and freight shipping lines; energy and power generating companies; petroleum and dry bulk barge companies; minerals and commodity corporations; government agencies; and the United States Navy. A significant percentage of the company's customer relationships are long term, with some taking the form of sole source agreements and joint ventures. In addition to its routine operations, Moran is known for its ability to successfully plan and execute exceptionally large, complicated and demanding projects. The company's experience, technological expertise and favorable reputation with government and regulatory agencies are crucial assets in answering these needs. |
