Moran Tug Service Signs Contract with Cameron LNG After months of negotiations, the Office of Planning & Development announces the arrival of Moran Towing of Lake Charles, La. A long-term contract has been signed to provide tug services for Sempra LNG's Cameron LNG receipt terminal located near Hackberry, La. After considering several locations for a support facility for the tugs, Moran Towing has chosen to build a new 250-foot steel dock and maintenance facility in Cameron Parish, La. "We are pleased to become a member of the community and plan to fill as many of the 40 new jobs from the local region as possible," said Jeffrey Beech of Moran Towing. "The staff of the Cameron Parish Planning and Development office was instrumental in the search for a suitable site, offering advice and assistance for situating in Cameron Parish." Currently more than 70% complete, the Cameron LNG receipt terminal will be capable of processing up to 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. Construction on the terminal is expected to be complete in late 2008. Liquefied natural gas, or LNG, is natural gas that has been supercooled to minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit. At that temperature, natural gas condenses into a liquid. When in liquid form, natural gas takes up to 600 times less space than in its gaseous state, which makes it feasible to transport over long distances. In the form of LNG, natural gas can be shipped from the parts of the world where it is abundant to where it is in demand. The use of LNG is a proven, reliable and safe process, and it has been used in the United States for more than 60 years. Moran Towing of Lake Charles, LLC is a joint venture by Moran Towing Corporation, Bay Houston Towing, Co., and Suderman & Young Towing, Co. L.P. In addition to this success, the Office of Planning & Development has confirmed a series of such negotiations that are ongoing and in various stages of completion and look forward to continuing the economic development effort. |
