Moran continues to expand its tractor tug fleet The most powerful tractor tug in Moran's growing fleet, the 6,000 hp Edward J. Moran, is one of three scheduled to begin service for the company over the next 12 months. With the introduction of these three vessels, Moran will continue to operate the largest fleet of tractor tugs on the Eastern Seaboard. Edward J. Moran, with full FiFi-1 firefighting capability and powered by a pair of EMD 710 series diesels, is slated to begin service in March 2006 at the Elba Island LNG terminal near Savannah, Georgia. She is currently in the final stages of construction at the Washburn & Doughty shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine. Moran currently operates 14 tractor tugs in ports from Texas to New York. By the end of 2006, the company will operate 17 tractor tugs, all with azimuthing twin z-drives, and 67 conventional tugs. In 2004 Moran introduced the 5,100 hp full FiFi-1 tractor tug Kaye E. Moran which was followed by sister tugs James R. Moran, in late 2004 and the Lynne Moran in 2005. The Lynne Moran is currently assigned to ship-assist work in Port Arthur, Texas. The Kaye and James provide services at the Cove Point LNG terminal on Chesapeake Bay. In addition to the Edward J. Moran, there are two other still-unnamed FiFi-1 class vessels, currently under construction. |
