The Port of Fernandina, situated along a western inlet off Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, is small but strategic. Its single terminal handles breakbulk ships, container ships and warehouse barges; typical cargoes carried by these vessels include paper products, construction materials, and manufactured goods bound for the Caribbean and other destinations. Moran tugs provide ship docking and escort services at the Port, serving vessels up to the 700-foot class. When needed, tugs from Moran's Jacksonville fleet are available to lend a hand. Moran captains are adept at |
easing vessels into tight spaces a requirement at Fernandina and the island's Terminal staff is skilled at line handling as well as cargo and warehousing operations. Fernandina Beach is scenically beautiful and rich in history. The Amelia River and a long expanse of salt marshes line the western shore of the island, hedging it against the mainland. Wildlife abounds, including whales, sea turtles and birds, with the latter enjoying a natural refuge in the island's forested dunes. The historical record acknowledges Fernandina as the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry. |
